It was initially developed by ICOS but was redeveloped and marketed by Lilly ICOS, LLC after Eli Lilly and Company bought ICOS. Its action is the same as that of Viagra as it also inhibits PDE5, the enzyme that regulates blood flow in the male’s sex organ.

Although both drugs work the same way in treating erectile dysfunction, there are differences in their effectiveness and other features. Viagra starts to work an hour after it is taken and is effective for at least four hours. Cialis, on the other hand, is effective for up to 36 hours (it has a 17.5-hour half life) and takes effect in 30 minutes after being taken. Their side effects are more or less the same. These include headache, upset stomach and blurred vision. Those who take Viagra have reported cases of color vision changes as well as an increased sensitivity to light while some Cialis users experience muscle aches and back pain. Both pills are sold for the same price.
